The final draft of the Class Rules has been accepted by ISAF and are now on the ISAF Website and copy has been placed here (Download in PDF format, 217 KB)

This epic journey has been a dramatic learning curve for the group that steered this process over a protracted period, including Rees Martin, Tim Russell, Tim Street and Ian Howlett - we should all thank them for their efforts to keep us as an international class.

This is a consolidation of the existing rules based on the International Rule and all the subsequent amendments which required extensive trawling through old minutes. We now have a document that includes all those items we thought were in, diagrams that make sense and procedures that are understandable. The two key issues are:

  • Paragraph 37 – Electronics. We can now have VHF on board
  • Appendix A – The Classic Class Rules. These Rules were accepted by ISMA in Flensburg and are now incorporated in the Six Metre Class Rules.
There are several issues that ISAF and the ISMA Class Rules Committee felt should be addressed during the season. Certain phrases were felt to be a little vague and open to misinterpretation. Nothing too serious, but with the consolidation of the Class, new boats and new members, it is felt that we must keep in mind the development ethos of The International Rule by keeping abreast with current design thinking.

Print them off and read with a stiff drink. Discussion points, through Rees Martin please.
