2007 6mR World Championships

16th to 23rd July 2007
Royal Yacht Squadron, Cowes

Timed to co-ordinate with the Metre Rule Centenary Regatta a record turn-out is expected for the Worlds next year, since the schedule of events presents an unparalleled opportunity to come and sail in the Solent from Cowes, arguably the origin of competitive sailing, at an event run by the prestigious Royal Yacht Squadron.

At the same time, the British Classic Yacht Club has organised its Annual Regatta to provide a warm-up event for metre boats from other classes prior to the Centenary Regatta.

Information concerning racing is posted on the Royal Yacht Squadron web site, the key information being:

View the Deed of Gift for the trophy (pdf 24KB).

It would be appreciated if any owners intending to bring their boat can provide an early indication of which events they wish to attend - this is not an entry, but to help with logistics, ensure adequate support facilities across all the events and so that we can communicate with you. If demand is very high and numbers have to be restricted, priority will go to those who have registered - pre-register for this event on the Royal Yacht Squadron site.

Rear Commodore John Grandy confirms that the Royal Yacht Squadron is very pleased to act as Organising Authority for The Six Metre Worlds and welcomes all Metre Class yachts to Cowes.

“The resurgence of the Metre Classes and in particular the 6 Metres is heartening. The Squadron has had long associations with the fleet and the return of these wonderful yachts will remind us of our yachting heritage. With the substantial investment now being made in Cowes yachting facilities, it is anticipated that these events will become part of the international circuit. We proudly welcome participating yachtsmen to join us in July 2007.”

The Squadron have sent a welcome letter

During the event, there will be an extensive social calendar, some of which we will combine with the British Classic Yacht Club so that we can "party" with crew from other metre classes. In addition, Cowes on-shore facilities offer a variety of services. The Cowes website www.cowes.co.uk is packed with information.

The logistics of getting your boat to Cowes could not be easier - the Solent has one of the most concentrated areas of support organisations for yachting in the world. Local 6mR sailors will be pleased to assist where required.
